Improved Oxygen Activation over a Carbon/Co3O4 Nanocomposite for Efficient Catalytic Oxidation of Formaldehyde at Room Temperature

Rong Li et al.

Summary: Oxygen activation is improved by a carbon/Co3O4 nanocomposite, leading to enhanced formaldehyde removal efficiency above 90%. The composite structure induces disorder on the Co3O4 surface lattice, creating more oxygen vacancies and improving surface reducibility, resulting in accelerated production of reactive oxygen species for efficient HCHO oxidation.

Sulphur vacancy derived anaerobic hydroxyl radical generation at the pyrite-water interface: Pollutants removal and pyrite self-oxidation behavior

Cancan Ling et al.

Summary: In anaerobic water environments, FeS2 with sulfur vacancies stabilizes H2O adsorption to compensate for the energy barrier of H2O oxidation on pyrite surfaces. The presence of surface Fe3+ and nearby H2O molecules promotes the oxidation of adsorbed H2O, generating free hydroxyl radicals. These results shed light on the mechanism of anaerobic hydroxyl radical generation on pyrite surfaces and its environmental implications.

Adjacent single-atom irons boosting molecular oxygen activation on MnO2

Huayu Gu et al.

Summary: Efficient molecular oxygen activation is crucial for catalytic oxidation reaction, and depends on the construction of active sites. Dual adjacent Fe atoms anchored on MnO2 can assemble into a diatomic site, forming Fe(O = O)Fe for highly efficient CO oxidation. This study demonstrates a new efficient pathway to activate molecular oxygen through single atom technology.

Probing reaction pathways for H2O-mediated HCHO photooxidation at room temperature

Weiwei Shao et al.

Summary: Photooxidation is a promising strategy for removing indoor pollutant formaldehyde, with the role of H2O molecules and the formation of center dot OH radicals being key factors in the process. In situ spectroscopic techniques provide evidence for the H2O-mediated formaldehyde photooxidation mechanism, highlighting the importance of water in promoting the oxidation process. This work demonstrates the potential for high-efficiency indoor formaldehyde removal by uncovering the mechanisms involved in H2O-assisted photooxidation.
