Karyopherin-mediated nucleocytoplasmic transport

Casey E. Wing et al.

Summary: Efficient and regulated nucleocytoplasmic trafficking is crucial for the proper functions of eukaryotic cells. The Karyopherin-beta (Kap) family of nuclear transport receptors mediates the majority of macromolecular traffic across the nuclear pores. Understanding how Kap family members transport their cargoes into the nucleus or the cytoplasm and how these interactions are regulated is essential for understanding nuclear export and import of proteins and RNA and their physiological functions.

Normal Table of Xenopus development: a new graphical resource

Natalya Zahn et al.

Summary: Normal tables and illustrations of embryonic development play a crucial role in research and teaching. However, due to copyright restrictions, the use of classic illustrations is no longer possible. To address this, we have created a new resource consisting of 133 high-quality illustrations and a landmarks table, which will support future Xenopus research and teaching.

UniProt: the universal protein knowledgebase in 2021

Alex Bateman et al.

Summary: The UniProt Knowledgebase aims to provide users with a comprehensive, high-quality set of protein sequences annotated with functional information. Updates over the past two years have increased the number of sequences to approximately 190 million, with new methods to assess proteome completeness and quality. UniProtKB has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by expertly curating relevant entries and making them rapidly available through a dedicated portal.

TMTpro Complementary Ion Quantification Increases Plexing and Sensitivity for Accurate Multiplexed Proteomics at the MS2 Level

Alex Johnson et al.

Summary: Quantification using complementary ions with TMTpro-tag allows for accurate and precise multiplexed proteomics at the MS2 level, resulting in increased sensitivity and quantification of more proteins compared to other methods such as MS3. The TMTproC approach offers improved data quality and accessibility to accurate multiplexed proteomics beyond laboratories with MS3-capable instrumentation.

The DNA-to-cytoplasm ratio broadly activates zygotic gene expression in Xenopus

David Jukam et al.

Summary: In multicellular animals, the switch from maternal to zygotic control of development after fertilization is known as zygotic genome activation (ZGA). DNA is identified as an important component of the N/C ratio, which serves as a critical regulator of zygotic genome activation in Xenopus embryos.

Interaction of spindle assembly factor TPX2 with importins-α/β inhibits protein phase separation

Mohammad S. Safari et al.

Summary: The study revealed high-affinity interactions between TPX2 and importins α/β, as well as a new nuclear localization sequence in TPX2. Additionally, it was found that interactions of importin α and β with TPX2 inhibit its ability to undergo phase separation.
