Low-Threshold, Highly Stable Colloidal Quantum Dot Short-Wave Infrared Laser enabled by Suppression of Trap-Assisted Auger Recombination

Nima Taghipour et al.

Summary: A binary blend of CQDs and ZnO nanocrystals is used to passivate trap states in PbS-CQD gain medium, leading to improved Auger lifetime and suppression of trap-assisted Auger recombination. Integration of this binary blend with a DFB resonator has demonstrated stable single-mode lasing emission with low threshold and continuous operation of 5 hours under room temperature and ambient conditions.

First-principles identification of VI + Cui defect cluster in cuprous iodide: origin of red light photoluminescence

Dingrong Liu et al.

Summary: In this paper, the formation energies and emission line shapes for various defects in CuI are studied through first-principles simulations. It is discovered that the intrinsic point defect cluster V-I+Cui(2+) is the source of the long wavelength emission. The prediction of a significant reduction in defect concentration as the chemical condition changes supports this finding.

A comprehensive study of ultrafast carrier dynamics of LT-GaAs: Above and below bandgap regions

Nikita Vashistha et al.

Summary: In this study, ultrafast carrier dynamics of low temperature grown GaAs was investigated over a wide spectral range using ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy. The presence of defects and their impact on carrier relaxation pathways and lifetime were demonstrated, with predictions made for the carrier relaxation models. It was found that the behavior was influenced by band filling and renormalization for above bandgap pumping, while defects played a major role in below bandgap pumping. The calculated trap time ranged from -128 fs to -807 fs, with a wide variation in overall recombination time depending on the position of traps/defects in the forbidden band.

Summary: Simulation of carrier and lattice relaxation after optical excitation was conducted for wide-bandgap semiconductors CuI and ZnO. Transient temperature dynamics of electrons, holes, and various phonon modes were studied, confirming the importance of carrier-LO-phonon interaction and hot-phonon effects. The results supported recent findings from time-resolved optical spectroscopy experiments.
