Two decades later, research in the Svartberget/Krycklan catchment showed a modest recovery in acidic episodes, but the primary driver of stream acidity remains organic acidity. Legacy effects of acid deposition, such as calcium losses from soils, are more pronounced than expected, and new changes and threats to water resources make it necessary to monitor climate change, land-use transitions, and long-range transport of contaminants.
