Minimally invasive classification of paediatric solid tumours using reduced representation bisulphite sequencing of cell-free DNA: a proof-of-principle study

Ruben Van Paemel et al.

Summary: In the clinical management of pediatric solid tumors, the DNA methylation pattern in cell-free DNA shows promise in diagnosing tumor samples, with this study demonstrating the potential of using cf-RRBS to accurately classify pediatric tumors even with minimal sample amounts. This approach has the ability to address remaining diagnostic challenges in pediatric oncology in a cost-effective and minimally invasive manner.

An Integrated, Scalable, Electronic Video Consent Process to Power Precision Health Research: Large, Population-Based, Cohort Implementation and Scalability Study

Clara Lajonchere et al.

Summary: This study describes the operational implementation and scalability of an electronic universal consent process used in a precision health biobank, where over 40,000 participants were recruited at a rate of 800 to 1000 patients per week. Results showed higher opt-in rates in perioperative and ambulatory clinics compared to clinical laboratories, with patients with higher medical acuity more likely to participate. The study demonstrates a scalable recruitment approach for population health research with an average overall opt-in rate of 65.5%.

Ultrasensitive detection of circulating tumour DNA via deep methylation sequencing aided by machine learning

Naixin Liang et al.

Summary: Deep methylation sequencing aided by a machine-learning classifier allows for the detection of early cancers from plasma samples at dilution factors as low as 1/10,000, with high sensitivity and specificity. This method accurately identifies patients with lung cancer at different disease stages and outperforms other methods in cancer detection.
