Achieving Remarkable Charge Density via Self-Polarization of Polar High-k Material in a Charge-Excitation Triboelectric Nanogenerator

Huiyuan Wu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on boosting the output charge density of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) through the charge-excitation strategy. It reports a rapid self-polarization effect of a polar dielectric material, which enhances the output charge density by increasing the permittivity of the material. By using a homemade lead zirconate titanate-poly(vinylidene fluoride) composite film in a specific humidity, an ultrahigh charge density is achieved, providing new guidance for practical applications of TENGs.

Achieving ultrahigh instantaneous power density of 10 MW/m2 by leveraging the opposite-charge-enhanced transistor-like triboelectric nanogenerator (OCT-TENG)

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: By leveraging the opposite-charge-enhancement effect and transistor-like device design, TENG can overcome the limitations of high output impedance and low charge transfer, achieving instantaneous power density over 10 MW/m(2) at a low frequency of approximately 1 Hz. This breakthrough not only sets a record of high-power output for TENG, but also opens up possibilities for powering commercial lamps and wirelessly supplying vehicle bulbs.

A high humidity-resistive triboelectric nanogenerator via coupling of dielectric material selection and surface-charge engineering

Lu Liu et al.

Summary: The output performance of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in high humidity environments can be improved by selecting appropriate dielectric materials and surface charge engineering, especially by increasing the hydrophobicity of the dielectric materials. Ionic charges are found to be more stable than electronic charges under humid conditions, and a TENG utilizing hydrophobic dielectric material of PTFE and ion injection strategy retained around 91% of its initial output performance after 50,000 operation cycles at 90% relative humidity. This work not only demonstrates a technique for high humidity-resistive TENGs, but also opens opportunities for practical applications in diverse environments.
