Anti-diabetic potential of fl-boswellic acid and 11-keto-fl-boswellic acid: Mechanistic insights from computational and biochemical approaches

Ajmal Khan et al.

Summary: fl-Boswellic acid (fl-BA) and 11-keto-fl-boswellic acid (fl-KBA) have potent anti-diabetic, antioxidant, and anti-hyperlipidemic effects. They improve body weight loss, water consumption, and blood glucose levels in diabetic animals. The inhibition of DPP-4 is the probable mechanism of action for their anti-diabetic activities.

Advancing combination treatment with glycyrrhizin and boswellic acids for hospitalized patients with moderate COVID-19 infection: a randomized clinical trial

Adel A. Gomaa et al.

Summary: Recent evidence suggests potential therapeutic effects of glycyrrhizin (GR) and boswellic acids (BA) in COVID-19 treatment. A study on moderate COVID-19 patients found that the GR + BA group had no deaths and significantly shorter recovery time after 14-day treatment, with improved clinical status compared to the placebo group.

Bifidobacterium longum counters the effects of obesity: Partial successful translation from rodent to human

Harriet Schellekens et al.

Summary: The study showed that B. longum APC1472 has anti-obesity effects in obese mice and can improve glucose tolerance. However, in healthy overweight/obese adults, supplementation of B. longum APC1472 strain did not significantly impact BMI or waist-to-hip ratio but had a positive effect on reducing fasting blood glucose levels.

Boswellic acids: privileged structures to develop lead compounds for anticancer drug discovery

Hidayat Hussain et al.

Summary: Natural boswellic acids (BAs) derived from frankincense have shown promising anticancer effects and can potentially be utilized in future cancer treatments. Semisynthetic derivatives of BAs, particularly those with cyanoenone moieties in ring A, endoperoxides, and hybrids, exhibit potent cytotoxic effects and have the potential to enhance the efficacy of other anticancer compounds. Future research should focus on the preparation of these derivatives to advance them as lead anticancer compounds.
