Spinal Cord Injury Increases Pro-inflammatory Cytokine Expression in Kidney at Acute and Sub-chronic Stages

Shangrila Parvin et al.

Summary: This study revealed that spinal cord injury leads to robust systemic inflammation extending to the kidney, impacting renal pathophysiology and function. Elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines were observed in both the spinal cord and kidney post-SCI, emphasizing the importance of renal inflammation in SCI outcomes.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor produced long-term synaptic enhancement in the anterior cingulate cortex of adult mice

Hui-Hui Miao et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that BDNF is involved in enhancing synaptic transmission in the hippocampus, but less is known about its effects in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). In this study, it was demonstrated that BDNF enhances synaptic responses in the ACC in a dose-dependent manner, with the enhancement lasting at least 3 hours. The enhancement was found to be mediated by TrkB receptors, L-VGCC, mGluRs, and AC1 signaling pathways, and was shown to occlude TBS-induced LTP. The expression of BDNF-induced enhancement in the ACC was found to depend on the incorporation of CP-AMPARs and PKM zeta.
