Decreasing patient-reported burden of treatment: A systematic review of quantitative interventional studies

Aurore Lesage et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe and analyze interventions aimed at quantitatively assessing the impact of reducing the patient-reported burden of treatment. The results showed that some interventions had significant positive outcomes in reducing treatment burden. However, larger, high-quality studies focusing on patients with multiple morbidities did not show such positive results, indicating the need for further research in this area of patient-centered care.

Assessment of treatment burden and its impact on quality of life in dialysis-dependent and pre-dialysis chronic kidney disease patients

Asmaa Al-mansouri et al.

Summary: This study found that a considerable proportion of CKD patients suffer from treatment-related burden and a decline in HR-QOL to varying degrees. HD patients experience a higher burden of treatment compared to pre-dialysis patients, resulting in lower HR-QOL. The increase in treatment-related burden leads to a decrease in HR-QOL.

A Roadmap for Innovation to Advance Transplant Access and Outcomes: A Position Statement From the National Kidney Foundation

Krista L. Lentine et al.

Summary: Kidney transplantation has become the optimal treatment for kidney failure, but challenges such as limited organ supply, inequitable distribution of transplant opportunities, and lifelong transplant survival persist. Future research priorities include expanding living donation, improving waitlist management, maximizing use of available deceased donor organs, and extending allograft longevity. Additional focus is needed on reducing organ discard, developing personalized immunosuppression strategies, and improving access and graft survival for children with kidney failure.
