Kenaf fibers reinforced unsaturated polyester composites: A review

Reza Arjmandi et al.

Summary: The use of kenaf fibers as a natural reinforcement in polymer composites has gained significant attention in recent years due to their good mechanical properties, eco-friendly and biodegradable characteristics. By reinforcing unsaturated polyester (UPE) with kenaf fibers, the properties of the polyester resin can be improved, primarily through enhancing the interfacial adhesion between the fibers and the resin. Chemical modifications are commonly employed to further enhance this interfacial bonding, leading to improved mechanical properties of the composites. This paper explores previous studies on kenaf fiber reinforced UPE composites, focusing on processing methods, mechanical properties, water absorption, and morphology, serving as a valuable resource for future research in this area.
