This study describes a new species of Oropedium genus, Oropedium tatamaense, found in the high paramo of Tatama, Colombia. This new taxon could not be classified in any known tribe of the Membracinae subfamily and requires further research on its classification and biology.
The treehopper fauna of paramos has been poorly studied. Here, the new genus Oropedium is described to accommodate the new species Oropedium tatamaense, found in the unexplored paramo of Tatama at 3750 masl (Cordillera Occidental, Colombia). This taxon could not be classified in any known tribe of the subfamily Membracinae and is placed as incertae sedis. Information on its biology and distribution is discussed. An illustrated key to Membracinae tribes, including Oropedium gen. nov. is proposed.
