Epidemiological, clinical and laboratory features of acute Q fever in a cohort of hospitalized patients in a regional hospital, Israel, 2012-2018

Summary: Acute Q fever is endemic in Israel, with a poorly defined clinical and laboratory picture. A retrospective study was conducted in a hospital in the Sharon district, using a syndromic approach combined with rapid diagnostic testing to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. Over a six-year period, 484 patients tested positive, with 13.4% confirmed to have acute Q fever, while 35.3% were definitely not infected and the rest were excluded due to past/chronic/undetermined infection.
