Risk factors for recurrence beyond Milan criteria after radiofrequency ablation in transplantable small hepatocellular carcinoma

Weike Chu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the risk factors of recurrence beyond Milan criteria in patients with transplantable early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after the first radiofrequency ablation (RFA). The study found that 21.8% of patients with HCC < 2 cm and 56.4% of patients with HCC = 2 cm relapsed beyond Milan criteria. Tumor diameter >= 2 cm, red blood cell distribution width-to-lymphocyte ratio (RLR) >= 18.3, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) > 15 ng/ml, and early recurrence after RFA were independent predictors of recurrence exceeding Milan criteria. Close follow-up and early liver transplantation are recommended for these patients.

High Red Cell Distribution Width Is Associated with Worse Prognosis in Early Colorectal Cancer after Curative Resection: A Propensity-Matched Analysis

Kung-Chuan Cheng et al.

Summary: Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is associated with the prognosis of colorectal cancer patients. High RDW is a negative predictor for overall survival, disease-free survival, and cancer-specific survival, and is also related to age, tumor stage, abnormal blood parameters, and comorbidities.

Predictive Value of Red Blood Cell Distribution Width for 1-Year All-Cause Mortality in Critically III Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

Min Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prognostic value of red blood cell distribution width (RDW) measured within 24 hours before discharge in critically ill patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and its impact on 1-year all-cause mortality. The study found that elevated 24-hour dRDW values were significantly associated with increased hazards of all-cause mortality in critically ill patients with AMI, particularly in anemia patients. This highlights the importance of 24-hour dRDW in assessing prognosis in AMI patients.

Clinical Utility of Red Blood Cell Distribution Width for the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Cervical Cancer

Yanyan Li et al.

Summary: This study found that red blood cell distribution width (RDW) has diagnostic ability and is associated with survival and progression in cervical cancer. Higher RDW is correlated with C-reactive protein and poorer prognosis.

Red Blood Cell Distribution Width Is Associated with All-cause Mortality but Not Adverse Cancer-specific Outcomes in Men with Clinically Localized Prostate Cancer Treated with Radical Prostatectomy: Findings Based on a Multicenter Shared Equal Access Regional Cancer Hospital Registry

Hazem Orabi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether preoperative red blood cell distribution width (RDW) can serve as a prognostic marker in patients with prostate cancer (PCa) undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP). The results showed that RDW was not associated with PCa outcomes, but was associated with all-cause mortality (ACM). These findings highlight the importance of diverse, larger-sized studies in genitourinary cancer research.

Red blood cell distribution width in elderly hospitalized patients with cardiovascular disease

Andrew Xanthopoulos et al.

Summary: RDW levels were increased in elderly hospitalized patients with chronic CVD. Factors associated with elevated RDW included anemia and cardiovascular factors like acutely decompensated chronic heart failure (ADCHF) and atrial fibrillation (AF), suggesting sympathetic overactivity.

The Predictive Role of Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI) in the Prognosis of Stroke Patients

Yihui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive power of SIRI for stroke prognosis and compare it with other clinical parameters. The results showed that SIRI was associated with all-cause mortality in stroke patients and outperformed other indicators. The study also found a significant positive correlation between SIRI and stroke severity.

Prognostic value of red blood cell distribution width in predicting 3-month functional outcome of patients undergoing thrombolysis treatment for acute ischemic stroke

Dae Yong Kim et al.

Summary: The study showed that red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is associated with a poor functional outcome in patients undergoing thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke. Higher RDW levels were independently correlated with an increased risk of poor functional outcome after 3 months.
