Nano zero-valent iron supported by macroporous styrene ion exchange resin for enhanced Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solution

Wei Gao et al.

Summary: In order to address the issues of agglomeration and deactivation of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) in wastewater treatment, a styrene-based ion exchange resin D201 is chosen as a carrier for loading nZVI. The D201-loaded nZVI (D201@nZVI) is applied to treat simulated Cr(VI) wastewater. Through electrostatic attraction, Cr(VI) is attached to D201@nZVI and partly reduced to Cr(III), forming Cr(x)Fe1-(x)(OH)3 co-precipitation. D201@nZVI exhibits a good treatment capacity over a wide pH range and excellent regeneration performance. The removal rate of 50 mg L-1 Cr(VI) reaches 100% with a maximum adsorption amount of 123.14 mg g-1. D201@nZVI shows promising potential for in situ groundwater remediation.

Ahmed Hamdy et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized superparamagnetic and monodisperse magnetite nanoparticles from Egyptian hematite ore using a novel sonochemical method, followed by surface modification with polyethylene glycol to obtain stabilized and biocompatible PEG-MN nanoparticles. The synthesized PEG-MN nanoparticles exhibited an average crystalline size of 12 nm, 69.6% iron oxide content, a specific surface area of 219 m(2)/g, and superparamagnetic behavior at room temperature with a saturation magnetization of 39.370 emu/g.

Polyethylene glycol-stabilized bimetallic nickel-zero valent iron nanoparticles for efficient removal of Cr(vi)

Shuang Wang et al.

Summary: Ni/Fe-PEG was synthesized and used for the first time to treat Cr(vi) solution, showing high removal efficiency under optimized conditions. The excellent performance of Ni/Fe-PEG in pollutant treatment is mainly attributed to its adsorption, reduction, and co-precipitation abilities for removing Cr(vi).
