A critical review on various remediation approaches for heavy metal contaminants removal from contaminated soils

Saravanan Rajendran et al.

Summary: Heavy metal pollution is a global environmental challenge that poses a significant threat to human life. Various methods have been explored to eliminate heavy metal pollutants from the environment, but are constrained by high expenses, processing duration, geological problems, and political issues. The immobilization of metals, phytoextraction, and biological methods have proven practical in treating metal contaminants from the soil.

Hydrochemical characteristics and identification of groundwater pollution sources in tropical savanna

Abduljalal Abdulsalam et al.

Summary: Groundwater quality in the Galma sub-watershed in a tropical savanna was assessed using chemical and statistical methods. The study found that the dominant cations in the groundwater were Ca2+, while the dominant anions were HCO3-. Both natural and anthropogenic processes, particularly agricultural pollutants and waste leaching, were identified as the main factors affecting groundwater quality.

Partial substitution of chemical fertilizer with organic fertilizer over seven years increases yields and restores soil bacterial community diversity in wheat-rice rotation

Xinyue Li et al.

Summary: Substituting chemical fertilizer with organic fertilizer in a wheat-rice rotation system can improve crop yields and soil bacterial diversity. Long-term application of NPK decreased soil bacterial diversity, while NPKM in the wheat season and OM in the rice season increased soil bacterial community richness. Organic fertilizer inputs (NPKM and OM) increased microbial biomass carbon and abundance of dominant bacteria, benefiting crop yields and soil health in the rotation system.

Preparation, characterization and agri applications of biochar produced by pyrolysis of sewage sludge at different temperatures

Abhay Raj et al.

Summary: Sewage sludge biochar (SSB) prepared at different pyrolysis temperatures showed reduced total nitrogen, electrical conductivity, and total organic carbon content. SSB had significantly lower concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) compared to sewage sludge, with heavy metals enrichment influenced by pyrolysis temperature. Leaching rates of heavy metals in SSB were significantly decreased compared to sewage sludge.
