The VP2 protein exhibits cross-interaction to the VP1 protein in norovirus GII.17

Yingyin Liao et al.

Summary: Norovirus is a major cause of acute gastroenteritis worldwide. The minor capsid protein VP2 contains a hypervariable domain, the functions of which are largely unknown. Lack of sequences and a crystallographic model makes it difficult to explore the mysteries of VP2. This study identified cross-interactions among different clusters of GII.17 strains and found the VP1 interaction domain of VP2, which is not universal in different clusters. In contrast to previous findings, VP2 was found to localize in the cytoplasm. Further exploration of VP2's possibilities is warranted.

Prevalence of GII.4 Sydney Norovirus Strains and Associated Factors of Acute Gastroenteritis in Children: 2019/2020 Season in Guangzhou, China

Lei Duan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and clinical characteristics of norovirus strains in acute gastroenteritis patients in Guangzhou, China, during the 2019/2020 season. It was found that GII.4 Sydney[P31] was the major circulating genotype in the area during this time period, with implications for the prevention, control, and treatment of norovirus in the future.

Understanding the relationship between norovirus diversity and immunity

Lauren A. Ford-Siltz et al.

Summary: Human noroviruses are the most common viral cause of acute gastroenteritis worldwide, but there are currently no approved vaccines or specific therapeutics. Obstacles delaying the development of a norovirus vaccine include the extreme diversity of noroviruses, incomplete understanding of immunity, and lack of robust cell culture systems or animal models. Recent advances in cultivation, genomics, and immunity have provided new information for better understanding of norovirus immunity and guiding the development of cross-protective vaccines.
