Exploring vaccination practices of midwives in British Columbia

Julie A. Bettinger et al.

Summary: The majority of BC midwives discuss, recommend, and administer vaccines to their clients, with hepatitis B and rubella being the most frequently administered vaccines. Logistical concerns are the greatest barrier to vaccine administration, followed by the perception that vaccine administration is not within the scope of practice for midwives, especially for influenza vaccine. Midwives who administer vaccines are more likely to discuss and recommend vaccines to their clients and infants.
