Clinical Outcomes Of A COVID-19 Vaccine: Implementation Over Efficacy

A. David Paltiel et al.

Summary: Implementation factors play a crucial role in the success of vaccination programs, outweighing vaccine efficacy determined in clinical trials. Manufacturing or deployment delays, vaccine hesitancy, and increased epidemic severity can significantly diminish the benefits of a vaccine.

Individual and social determinants of COVID-19 vaccine uptake

K. Viswanath et al.

Summary: Our study identified race/ethnicity, risk perceptions, exposure to different media for COVID-19 news, party identification and confidence in scientists as factors that would be affecting COVID-19 vaccine uptake. The good news is that these are addressable through strategic public health communications, but a lot of work remains to be done with some urgency.

COVID-19 vaccination rates vary by community vulnerability: A county-level analysis

Clare C. Brown et al.

Summary: The study found a significant association between community vulnerability and county-level COVID-19 vaccination rates, with Theme 3 (housing type, transportation, household composition, and disability) showing the largest disparity in influencing vaccination rates. Increases in the CCVI index, housing composition, and epidemiological factors were all associated with declines in county-level vaccination rates.

Changing composition of SARS-CoV-2 lineages and rise of Delta variant in England

Swapnil Mishra et al.

Summary: Since late March 2021, the percentage of non-B.1.1.7 variants has been increasing in London and other English regions, driven by a variety of lineages with immune escape. From mid-April, B.1.617.2 (WHO label Delta) spread rapidly, becoming the dominant variant in England by late May. The competition between variants and the rise of non-B.1.1.7 variants underscore the importance of diverse data sources in community surveillance for early detection of new variants.
