Numerical and experimental studies of acoustic streaming effects on microparticles/droplets in microchannel flow

Sadaf Maramizonouz et al.

Summary: Exploring acoustic streaming effects for microfluidic devices is crucial in various fields like biomedical engineering, medical diagnostics, cell studies, and chemistry. Computational modeling is essential to understand and efficiently use acoustofluidic systems, with this paper focusing on investigating the effects of surface acoustic waves in a microchannel flow using two computational approaches. Results show that the first approach is more accurate in predicting the dynamic behavior of microparticles, while the second approach is more computationally efficient and still yields reasonable agreement with experiments.

Experimental realization of ultrasonic retroreflection tweezing via metagratings

Long-Sheng Zeng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a prototype of retroreflection tweezer based on metagratings, enabling particle levitation and contactless movement. Unlike traditional tweezers, this retroreflection tweezer is designed for oblique incidence, providing more degrees of freedom for real-time observation.

3D numerical simulation of acoustophoretic motion induced by boundary-driven acoustic streaming in standing surface acoustic wave microfluidics

Mohammad Sadegh Namnabat et al.

Summary: A fully-coupled 3D numerical simulation of boundary-driven acoustic streaming in acoustofluidic devices utilizing SSAWs has been conducted, discussing different acoustofluidic effects, fluid-solid interactions, and the 3D influence of novel on-chip configurations. Experimental validation showed acceptable agreement with reported observations, and a novel sheathless taSSAW cell/particle separator was conceptualized and designed based on the presented 3D model. This 3D fully-coupled model is considered a powerful tool in further designing and optimizing SSAW microfluidics due to its time-/cost-efficient performance and capability to model complex on-chip configurations.
