Improvement the tribological properties of diamond-like carbon film via Mo doping in diesel condition

Yongyao Su et al.

Summary: Molybdenum-doped diamond-like carbon (Mo-DLC) film was prepared to improve the tribological properties in diesel engines. The Mo doping decreased internal stress and increased adhesion of the film. Additionally, the formation of molybdenum carbide led to the improvement of wear resistance under air and diesel conditions.

Influence of Ag doping on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and adhesion stability of diamond-like carbon films

P. P. Jing et al.

Summary: The study showed that silver doping can improve the microstructure of diamond-like carbon films and enhance the adhesion between the film and substrate. As the silver concentration increases, the residual stress in the DLC films decreases, but the hardness decreases when the silver concentration exceeds 3.2 at.%. Silver doping contributes to enhancing the wear resistance of DLC films.

A comparative study of duty cycle and argon/methane flow ratio effect on the tribological behavior of DLC coatings over nitrided Astaloy Mo-based steel

Mahsa Haji Ghasemi et al.

Summary: The surface properties of Astaloy Mo-based steel were enhanced by using DLC deposition, which significantly improved hardness and wear behavior. Changes in the Argon/Methane ratio and duty cycle had an impact on the wear mechanisms of DLC coatings, with an increase in mass loss with a rise in the duty cycle and a decrease with an increase in the Argon/Methane ratio. Burnishing, pulling out, and adhesive wear were identified as dominant mechanisms.

Tribochemical mechanism of superlubricity in graphene quantum dots modified DLC films under high contact pressure

Xuan Yin et al.

Summary: By designing three series of tribo-couples based on amorphous carbon films modified by graphene quantum dots and conducting tests under harsh conditions, it was found that the lubrication mechanism of GQDs can achieve a superlubricity state; additionally, the formation of a nanostructured sliding interface is crucial in this process.

Double hybrid lubricant additives consisting of a phosphonium ionic liquid and graphene nanoplatelets/hexagonal boron nitride nanoparticles

Khodor I. Nasser et al.

Summary: The tribological performance of polyalphaolefin 32 was investigated with the addition of two nanomaterials and an ionic liquid, showing improvements in anti-friction behavior and anti-wear behavior. The best anti-friction behavior was observed in the PAO/IL3/GnP/h-BN system. Additionally, there were positive synergies found between each ionic liquid and the graphene nanoplatelets/hexagonal boron nitride hybrid additives in the PAO.

Influence of Si- and W- doping on micro-scale reciprocating wear and impact performance of DLC coatings on hardened steel

Ben D. Beake et al.

Summary: The study indicates that Si-doped DLC exhibits the lowest wear resistance in reciprocating sliding, while undoped DLC is most susceptible to fracture. Despite the low wear resistance in reciprocating sliding, W-doped DLC shows higher damage tolerance in repetitive impacting compared to other coatings.

Characterization and Modeling of Nano Wear for Molybdenum-Based Lubrication Layer Systems

Bernd-Arno Behrens et al.

Summary: The research aims to develop a solid lubricant system with regenerative properties, utilizing molybdenum reservoirs and molybdenum trioxide top layers to decrease the use of environmentally harmful greases and oils. Nano testing is used to determine the wear volume of single coatings, and a wear model is developed and validated through wear tests on the mono layers.
