Safety implications of higher levels of automated vehicles: a scoping review

Pavlos Tafidis et al.

Summary: This study investigated and synthesized existing literature on higher levels of AVs' safety implications using a scoping review approach. The focus was on changes in road safety levels after the deployment of AVs in transport networks. Findings suggest that while AVs hold the potential to improve overall safety on roads, the existing evidence is mainly based on assumptions rather than real data.

Curve Tilting With Nonlinear Model Predictive Control for Enhancing Motion Comfort

Yanggu Zheng et al.

Summary: This article presents a nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) method for curve tilting functionality, achieving good results in a hardware-in-the-loop setup with a significant reduction in lateral acceleration sensed by passengers. Compared to vehicles with passive suspensions, this method can achieve lower tracking error in highway, rural, and urban driving scenarios.

Service design for public transportation to address the issue of females' fear of crime

Hyunjin Kim

Summary: This study examines the impact of the design of public transport services on female passengers' feelings of safety and fear, specifically focusing on the London Underground. By using abductive reasoning, it proposes a conceptual model for understanding female passengers' fear of crime in connection with public transport services and suggests influential factors of public transport service design. This approach provides a more suitable framework for designing and improving public transport services to address the issue of fear of crime.

The complexity of value of travel time for self-driving vehicles - a morphological analysis

Maria Nordstrom et al.

Summary: Understanding the value of travel time for mobility concepts based on self-driving vehicles is crucial and can be evaluated through morphological analysis, considering parameters like vehicle characteristics, operating principles, journey characteristics, and traveler characteristics. It is suggested to differentiate the value of travel time based on travel characteristics rather than traditional transport modes.

Assessment of optimal passive suspensions regarding motion sickness mitigation in different road profiles and sitting conditions

Georgios Papaioannou et al.

Summary: This paper explores the mitigation of car sickness and improvement of ride comfort through optimizing passive suspension systems. By simulating road conditions and transferring vehicle accelerations to the occupant's head, the study assesses how tuning suspension systems through optimization can minimize car sickness and enhance ride comfort.
