6-Gingerol, a Major Ingredient of Ginger Attenuates Diethylnitrosamine-Induced Liver Injury in Rats through the Modulation of Oxidative Stress and Anti-Inflammatory Activity

Mohammed A. Alsahli et al.

Summary: The hepatoprotective effects of 6-gingerol were investigated in a study using DEN-induced liver damage model. 6-gingerol demonstrated significant improvements in oxidative stress, inflammatory markers, liver function enzyme parameters, and histopathological changes induced by DEN. The results suggest that 6-gingerol may be a potential alternative therapy for the prevention and treatment of liver diseases.

Potential Chemopreventive Role of Boldine Against Hepatocellular Carcinoma via Modulation of Cell Cycle Proteins in Rat Model

Nirmala Subramaniam et al.

Summary: Boldine was found to protect the liver from reactive oxygen species, inhibit cell proliferation, regulate the cell cycle, and enhance detoxification processes, making it an effective chemopreventive agent in reducing the occurrence of diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatocellular carcinoma in Wistar albino rats.

Phyllanthin prevents diethylnitrosamine (DEN) induced liver carcinogenesis in rats and induces apoptotic cell death in HepG2 cells

Yulai You et al.

Summary: The study shows that phyllanthin can counteract the effects of DEN on liver function enzymes, oxidative DNA damage, and tumor-specific markers by enhancing antioxidant capacity and inducing caspase-dependent apoptosis through the mTOR/PI3K signaling pathway. Additionally, phyllanthin inhibits the growth of HepG2 cells in a dose-dependent manner and demonstrates minimal impact on normal cell lines like HL7702.

Perspectives on natural compounds in chemoprevention and treatment of cancer: an update with new promising compounds

Abedul Haque et al.

Summary: Although cancer is the second deadliest disease worldwide, recent advances in precision treatments are promising. However, challenges remain due to the heterogeneity and mutational burdens of cancer cells. Chemoprevention, especially with natural dietary compounds, is considered a rational and appealing strategy to prevent carcinogenesis, particularly in high-risk populations.

Se-Methylselenocysteine Alleviates Liver Injury in Diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-Induced Hepatocellular Carcinoma Rat Model by Reducing Liver Enzymes, Inhibiting Angiogenesis, and Suppressing Nitric Oxide (NO)/Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS) Signaling Pathway

Jun Ding et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that se-methylselenocysteine treatment alleviated liver injury in a DEN-induced hepatocellular carcinoma rat model through reducing liver enzymes, inhibiting angiogenesis, and suppressing the NO/NOS signaling pathway.

Production, purification, and characterization of Streptomyces sp. strain MPPS2 extracellular pyomelanin pigment

Sinan Bayram

Summary: Melanins are natural pigments with various bioactive properties, and this study investigated the chemical and physical properties of purified extracellular pyomelanin pigment using XRD, FT-IR, and H-1 NMR. The melanin pigment producer Streptomyces sp. strain MPPS2 was characterized by MALDI-TOF/TOF MS and 16S rDNA sequence analysis, with the 16S rDNA nucleotide sequence analysis result deposited in NCBI GenBank under accession number MT825616.

The Liver and the Hepatic Immune Response in Trypanosoma cruzi Infection, a Historical and Updated View

Natalia Vacani-Martins et al.

Summary: Chagas disease, caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, was described over a century ago by Dr. Carlos Chagas in Brazil. Liver involvement, particularly hepatomegaly, is a common clinical sign and is more pronounced in cases of oral infection found in the Amazon region. Despite efforts to understand the mechanisms leading to cardiac and digestive manifestations in chronic patients, the importance of liver involvement and hepatic immune response in disease progression has not received much attention.
