Effect of matrix and hybrid reinforcement on fibre metal laminates under low-velocity impact loading

M. Hussain et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of matrix and hybrid reinforcement on the low-velocity impact behavior of Fibre Metal Laminates (FMLs). The results show that PVB-based FMLs have better impact resistance compared to epoxy-based FMLs. Tomography analysis reveals that PVB is more suitable for use with hybrid reinforcement. FMLs reinforced with aramid/3D-jute show higher resistance to deformation. FMLs made with PVB and aramid/3D-jute reinforcement exhibit overall superior low-velocity impact performance.

Effect of surface treatments on metal-composite adhesive bonding for high-performance structures: an overview

Adeela Nasreen et al.

Summary: Composite materials are preferred in various applications due to their flexibility, high strength to weight ratio, and fracture toughness. However, joining metals and composites remains a significant industrial issue. Surface treatments of metals, composites, and adhesives play a crucial role in the strength of joints.

Properties and characterization of novel 3D jute reinforced natural fibre aluminium laminates

M. Hussain et al.

Summary: This paper reports the development of new 3D Jute Reinforced natural fibre Aluminium Laminates (JuRALs) with improved mechanical properties through enhanced weaving pattern and metal-composite bonding. Tensile and flexural properties were better in through-thickness composites, while T-peel tests showed the influence of constituent materials on metal-composite adhesion rather than the type of 3D structure.
