Structural, optical and half-metallic properties of Mn and As co-implanted ZnO thin films

Chenlin Wang et al.

Summary: In this work, ion implantation of Mn and As ions into ZnO films significantly altered their optical properties, leading to changes in refractive index and extinction coefficient. The presence of Mn ions also introduced a halfmetallic property to the ZnO films, resulting in gentler variations in optical characteristics. These findings suggest new possibilities for the design and optimization of optoelectronic devices utilizing ZnO thin films with semi-metallic properties.

Electrical properties of ZnO films implanted with rare earth and their relationship with structural and optical parameters

Tomasz A. Krajewski et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the structural, optical, and electrical changes caused by rare earth ion implantation into thin ZnO films grown by Atomic Layer Deposition. It is shown that proper post-implantation thermal treatment can partially repair the initial damages of the ZnO crystal lattice and improve the conductivity and luminescence intensity of the layers.

Characterization of Eu doped ZnO micropods prepared by chemical bath deposition on p-Si substrate

Nouf Ahmed Althumairi et al.

Summary: The chemical bath deposition method was used to synthesize Eu-doped ZnO on p-type (100) silicon. The SEM image showed micropod-like ZnO formation. EDX and XPS measurements confirmed the concentration and presence of Eu ions. XRD analysis revealed the distortion of tetrahedral bonds and the lattice parameter change due to the Eu ions. Only Eu3+ emission was observed, indicating weak energy transfer. The emission of deep-level defects and Eu3+ ions caused a shift towards red color. The I-V measurements showed diode-like behavior with a constant barrier height.

Summary: An efficient combustion technique was used to produce ZnO nanopowders with different concentrations of Eu dopants. The structural morphology and optical behaviors of Eu2O3-ZnO nanocomposites were investigated. Results showed that the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of phenol and methylene blue increased with higher Eu doping ratios. The obtained Eu2O3-doped ZnO nanostructured materials are considered innovative, promising candidates for various nano-applications.

Hydrophilic ZnO thin films doped with ytterbium and europium oxide

Tomasz Tanski et al.

Summary: Hydrophilic and photocatalytically active ZnO and ZnO thin films doped with rare earth metal oxides (Yb2O3 and Eu2O3) were successfully prepared using a combination of sol-gel technique, spin-coating, and thermal treatment. The films exhibited high optical transmittance and were tested for their morphology, chemical composition, roughness, and optical properties. The degradation efficiency of rhodamine B in aqueous solution was also analyzed, showing promising results for water purification. The presented methodology can be applied to coatings for photovoltaic panels and architectural glass structures.

Tuneable polarity and enhanced piezoelectric response of ZnO thin films grown by metal-organic chemical vapour deposition through the flow rate adjustment

Quang Chieu Bui et al.

Summary: The research investigates the impact of O-2 gas and DEZn solution flow rates on properties of ZnO thin films, finding that the piezoelectric amplitude of ZnO thin films is significantly affected by the O-2/DEZn flow rate ratio, with Zn-polarity domains exhibiting a larger amplitude than O-polarity domains. Additionally, a comprehensive description of the formation process through different regimes is gained.

Identification of (Tb,Eu)9.43(SiO4)6O2-δ Oxy-Apatite Structures as Nanometric Inclusions in Annealed (Eu,Tb)-Doped ZnO/Si Junctions: Combined Electron Diffraction and Chemical Contrast Imaging Studies

Chris Leroux et al.

Summary: The (Tb, Eu)-doped ZnO-annealed films at 1100 degrees C exhibited intense photoluminescence emission from Eu and Tb ions, which is attributed to chemical segregation and the formation of a secondary Zn-free phase. Microstructural analysis revealed large faceted inclusions of rare-earth silicates and a determined hexagonal P6(3)/m-type (Tb, Eu)(9.43)(SiO4)(6)O2-delta structure. Spectroscopic data analysis at the atomic scale showed both RE elements having three-fold oxidation states and efficient energy transfer from Tb3+ toward Eu3+.

Summary: This study reports the growth and optical characteristics of Eu-doped ZnO films on ZnO nanowires using sputtering-assisted metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. The crystal quality of ZnO host materials is improved by the nanowire configuration due to a strain relaxation effect. Enhanced Eu luminescence at 613 nm is observed and attributed to an increase in the number of Eu centers excited via the host material.
