Enhancing long-term accuracy and durability of wastewater monitoring using electrosprayed ultra-thin solid-state ion selective membrane sensors

Yingzheng Fan et al.

Summary: The study addressed challenges in current membrane deposition approaches for solid-state ion selective membrane sensors by utilizing electrospray printing technology to deposit a tunable, high resolution and ultra-thin membrane on the electrode surface. This greatly shortened sensor response time, improved adhesion between the membrane and electrode, mitigated water layer formation, and enhanced sensor reading stability. The ion diffusion model confirmed that fast ion diffusion in the electrosprayed polymer matrix effectively shortened sensor response time.

Wound healing performance of PCL/chitosan based electrospun nanofiber electrosprayed with curcumin loaded chitosan nanoparticles

Shohreh Fahimirad et al.

Summary: The study successfully fabricated electrospun nanofibers containing curcumin-loaded chitosan nano-encapsulated particles. Electrospraying curcumin on the surface enhanced antibacterial, antioxidant, and cell proliferation properties, as well as higher swelling and water vapor transition rates, leading to significant improvement in wound healing in vivo.

Double-stranded surface-grafted polymer brushes with ladder-like architecture

Artur J. Wojcik et al.

Summary: This feature paper discusses the synthesis and unique properties of double-stranded surface-grafted polymer brushes with ladderlike architecture, achieved through self-templating surface-initiated polymerization (ST-SIP). The ST-SIP method, primarily used for conjugated polymer brushes, enables anisotropic conductance and long term stability of the conjugated chains. The double-stranded brush topology shows enhanced stiffness, high elasticity, and potential for fabricating robust nanocoating for tailored (bio)interfaces.

Poly(vinyl alcohol)/polydopamine hybrid nanofiltration membrane fabricated through aqueous electrospraying with excellent antifouling and chlorine resistance

Xiaolan Geng et al.

Summary: In this study, a poly(vinyl alcohol)/polydopamine hybrid nanofiltration membrane was fabricated through aqueous electrospraying, showing excellent antifouling and chlorine resistance properties. The membrane exhibited low total flux decline ratio and high flux recovery ratio, outperforming commercial NF270 membrane. The use of aqueous electrospray strategy may provide a promising approach for creating nanofiltration membranes with enhanced antifouling and chlorine resistance.
