Electrophoretic deposition of biphasic calcium phosphate/graphene nanocomposite coatings on Ti6Al4V substrate for biomedical applications

Safoora Farshid et al.

Summary: This research utilized calcium phosphate/graphene composite coatings to modify the surface of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy, improving its bioactivity and biocompatibility for biomedical applications. The presence of graphene in the composite coatings enhanced mechanical and corrosion resistance properties, while maintaining bioactivity and hydrophilicity. Cell viability and attachment results showed significant improvements with the BCP/Gr coatings, making them a novel and proper choice for biomedical applications.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of accidental damage on DLC coating's anticorrosion and tribological performances. Results show that cracking or spalling of the coating leads to corrosion failure and deterioration of tribological behavior. Coatings with appropriate scratch structures exhibit excellent tribological behaviors.

Tribological, cytotoxicity and antibacterial properties of graphene oxide/ carbon fibers/polyetheretherketone composite coatings on Ti-6Al-4V alloy as orthopedic/dental implants

Wen Qin et al.

Summary: In this work, graphene oxide/carbon fibers/polyetheretherketone (GO/CF/PEEK) composite coatings were fabricated on Ti-6Al-4V alloy to improve wear resistance, cytocompatibility, and antibacterial properties for orthopedic/dental implants. The coatings significantly decreased the coefficient of friction, enhanced wear resistance, exhibited good cytocompatibility, and showed excellent suppression toward Staphylococcus aureus due to the antibacterial nature of graphene oxide. Therefore, the composite coated Ti-6Al-4V alloy could be a promising material for bone tissue engineering in orthopedic/dental applications.
