Electromagnetic and mechanical properties of CORC cable due to screening current

Qiong Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the behavior of CORC cables under high field and current by combining electromagnetic and mechanical simulation. It is found that the screening current induces current loops and reduces magnetic field homogeneity within a pitch. Two pairs of shear force are generated at the current loop meeting zones, resulting in stress concentration. However, the presence of a copper core provides stable mechanical support, leading to no significant difference in maximum stress between cases with and without screening current in the CORC cable.

Improved Calculation of Magnetic Hysteresis Loss of Stacked Superconducting Cable Under T-A Formulation

Wenzhe Hong et al.

Summary: The second generation of high-temperature superconductor (HTS)REBCO is extensively used in electrical equipment due to its excellent current carrying properties and commercial manufacturing technology. In order to ensure operational stability and safety, it is important to consider the influence of magnetic loss in the design process of HTS-based superconducting power devices. A 2D and 3D Twisted Stacked-Tapes Cable (TSTC) models are established to analyze the magnetic loss of the superconductor. A parametric scanning method is proposed to reduce the deviation of hysteresis loss numerical simulation between the 2D and 3D models under alternating magnetic field. The results show that the deviation between the 2D and 3D model results can be reduced by using the scanning method.
