Non-uniform Grain Boundary Migration During Static Recrystallization: A Cellular Automaton Study

Fengxiang Lin et al.

Summary: The cellular automaton model successfully predicted the shape of recrystallized grains and revealed the influences of gradients of stored energy, grain boundary curvature, and heterogeneity of grain boundary mobility on non-uniform migration of grain boundary segments. The transfer prediction framework shows high accuracy for fatigue strength prediction and has a high tolerance for limitations in the amount of calibration data available for training. By combining the transfer prediction framework with evolutionary algorithms, a robust high-throughput alloy design model is achieved requiring only a small number of data points for reliability.

In-situ observations of static recrystallization and texture formation in a cold-rolled CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy

Summary: This study investigates the static recrystallization and texture development in a cold-rolled CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy. Evidence from quasi in-situ electron backscatter diffraction shows that the deformation texture is preserved after recrystallization but weakened. Shear bands act as preferential nucleation sites for recrystallization. In-situ observations using transmission electron microscope reveal that subgrains form through dislocation rearrangement and boundary migration, serving as viable nuclei for recrystallized grains.

Gradient microstructure, recrystallization and mechanical properties of copper processed by high pressure surface rolling

J. Guo et al.

Summary: The microstructure, hardness, and tensile properties of copper processed by high pressure surface rolling (HPSR) were investigated. It was found that HPSR resulted in a gradient structure with significant differences in microstructural features. The deformed microstructure varied from nano- and ultrafine-scale structures near the surface to lightly deformed grains at depths below the surface. Partial recrystallization occurred after annealing, with a more pronounced effect close to the surface. The deformed layer at depths greater than 500 μm remained largely non-recrystallized after annealing.

An increase in prior cold deformation led to enhanced recrystallized nuclei, indicating the unique characteristics of HEAs may promote this process. Additionally, higher levels of prior cold deformation resulted in a decline in hardness, UTS, and YS after annealing, with changes in fracture mode observed between FCC1 and FCC2 phases.
