Microstructural heredity of Ni-containing cryogenic steel and its effect on the toughness at 77 K

Qi-Yuan Chen et al.

Summary: The microstructural heredity of as-rolled lath martensite with different prior austenite grain morphologies during inter-critical quenching has been studied. It is found that the refinement of final microstructure can be achieved by refining the as-rolled lath martensite through both refinement and elongation of prior austenite grains. The cryogenic toughness of Ni-containing cryogenic steels is significantly improved through the heredity effect of as-rolled lath martensitic refinement.

Dependence of recrystallization behavior and magnetic properties on grain size prior to cold rolling in high silicon non-oriented electrical steel

Zhi-Hong Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the initial grain size plays a significant role in the recrystallization behavior and magnetic properties of non-oriented electrical steel. Larger initial grain size leads to faster recrystallization kinetics and increased magnetic induction, while smaller initial grain size results in the formation of strong recrystallization texture.

Effects of Solidification Cooling Rates on Microstructures and Physical Properties of Fe-6.5%Si Alloys

Gaoyuan Ouyang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the effect of cooling rate on physical properties of Fe-6.5wt%Si alloy by changing melt-spin wheel speeds, which significantly affect the solidification temperature profile, ordering, microstructures, textures, hardness, and magnetic properties. The research shows a critical cooling rate at around 1.7 x 10(5) K/s, below which the material embrittlement occurs due to the increase of ordered phases.

A route to produce toughened acicular ferrite with equivalent hardness as martensite: The combined effect of elements segregation and pre-transformed allotriomorphic ferrite

Binbin Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that acicular ferrite (AF) formed during the welding of steel can be obtained through intermediate annealing heat treatment, with significantly higher toughness and hardness compared to martensite at a cooling rate of -100 degrees C/s. High levels of boron (B) and molybdenum (Mo) segregation inhibit the nucleation of bainitic ferrite (BF) and promote AF nucleation of inclusions. Boron segregation mainly occurs during the cooling process from austenitizing temperature to intermediate annealing temperature via a nonequilibrium mechanism, while molybdenum segregation can be enhanced during intermediate annealing treatment by the generation of allotriomorphic ferrite.

Disparity in recrystallization of α- & γ-fibers and its impact on Cube texture formation in non-oriented electrical steel

Diween Hawezy et al.

Summary: The investigation into the recovery and recrystallization of alpha and gamma texture fibers during annealing revealed subtle differences between the two, resulting in different behaviors in terms of subgrain coalescence. Alpha fibers tend to bulge into neighboring deformed grains, while gamma fibers undergo rapid subgrain coalescence.
