Excited state hydrogen atom transfer pathways in 2,7-diazaindole - S1-3 (S = H2O and NH3) clusters

Simran Baweja et al.

Summary: The photoinduced tautomerization reactions via hydrogen atom transfer in 2,7-diazaindole isolated clusters with different solvent wires were computationally investigated. It was found that the ammonia clusters had lower reaction barriers compared to water clusters, and the barrier heights decreased with the lengthening of the solvent wire. The results suggest that ammonia is a better candidate for hydrogen transfer than water due to its higher gas-phase basicity.

Exploring the effect of nitrile substituent position on fluorescence quantum yield of ESIPT-based oxazoline derivatives: A TDDFT investigation

Qi Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the mechanism behind the difference in quantum yields between 2-(4,4-Dimethyl-4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-yl)-3-hydroxybenzonitrile (1-CN) and 4-(4,4-Dimethyl-4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-yl)-3-hydroxybenzonitrile (3-CN) was explored. The calculation results showed that the fluorescence peaks of both molecules originated from keto* configuration. The comparison of emission oscillator strength suggested that neither radiative transition nor internal conversion process was the main reason for the difference in quantum yields. It was found that the intersystem crossing process was more prominent in 1-CN compared to 3-CN, providing direct evidence for the lower fluorescence quantum yield of 1-CN.

New Insights about the Photostability of DNA/RNA Bases: Triplet nπ* State Leads to Effective Intersystem Crossing in Pyrimidinones

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The high photostability of DNA/RNA nucleobases is due to effective internal conversions and a minor decay pathway through intersystem crossing. Recent studies on three pyrimidinones reveal a direct transition process, shedding light on triplet formation in pyrimidines.

Theoretical Insights into Excited-State Intermolecular Proton Transfers of 2,7-Diazaindole in Water Using a Microsolvation Approach

Warinthon Chansen et al.

Summary: This study theoretically explored the excited-state intermolecular proton transfer mechanism of 2,7-diazaindole with water wires containing one or two shells. It found that the multiple proton transfer through the first hydration shell is the easiest process to occur with the lowest barrier and a highly exothermic reaction.

Revealing the role of excited state proton transfer (ESPT) in excited state hydrogen transfer (ESHT): systematic study in phenol-(NH3)n clusters

Summary: Excited State Hydrogen Transfer (ESHT) is a new paradigm proposed in the late 20th century, which has become important in understanding excited state dynamics of aromatic molecules and re-defining photoinduced proton-transfer reactions. ESHT is also discussed in relation to photo-protection mechanisms of biomolecules such as DNA.

Ultrafast excited-state dynamics of promising nucleobase ancestor 2,4,6-triaminopyrimidine

Conor D. Rankine

Summary: The ultrafast excited-state dynamics of 2,4,6-triaminopyrimidine were investigated using theoretical calculations and simulations, revealing internal conversion channels and non-radiative decay processes. These findings confirm the molecule's potential as a proto-RNA nucleobase and suggest energy-dependent dynamics in the excited state.
