Exploring the combination characteristics of lumefantrine, an antimalarial drug and human serum albumin through spectroscopic and molecular docking studies

Kabiru Abubakar Musa et al.

Summary: The binding of lumefantrine to human serum albumin was investigated using various spectroscopic techniques and molecular docking. The results showed moderate binding affinity between lumefantrine and human serum albumin, with the formation of a stable complex. Changes in protein structure and stability upon lumefantrine binding were observed from the spectroscopic results. The preferred binding site of lumefantrine on human serum albumin was identified as Sudlow's Site I in subdomain IIA, supported by molecular docking analysis.

Analyzing organophosphate pesticide-serum albumin binding interaction: a combined STD NMR and molecular docking study

Vandana Dahiya et al.

Summary: The analysis of the interaction between organophosphate pesticides (OP) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) through STD-NMR and molecular docking provided insights into the binding interactions and determined the binding affinities of the complexes. The research revealed high binding affinities through non-covalent interactions between these OP and BSA complexes.

Synthetic carboline compounds targeting protein: biophysical and biological perspective

Paromita Bhattacharjee et al.

Summary: The Pictet-Spengler cyclization method was used to synthesize three carboline derived compounds with different substituents. Structure-activity relationship studies revealed varying affinities of the compounds with human serum albumin, with comp3 showing the highest cytotoxicity against HCT-116 cells. Compounds 3 and 7 induced oxidative stress mediated autophagy leading to programmed cell death in HCT-116 cells. Further studies showed that these compounds effectively inhibit DNA topoisomerase I activity and possess anti-inflammatory actions.

Spectroscopic studies on the interaction of aspartame with human serum albumin

Fahimeh Kheirdoosh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the binding of the artificial sweetener aspartame with human serum albumin at physiological pH. The results showed that the binding interaction is static quenching with a binding constant of 1.42 x 10(+4) M-1 at 298 K, and it is enthalpically driven. Molecular docking studies confirmed that aspartame binds strongly to site I of HSA mainly through hydrophobic and hydrogen bond interactions.

Evidence for Dual Site Binding of Nile Blue A toward DNA: Spectroscopic, Thermodynamic, and Molecular Modeling Studies

Mukti Mohammad et al.

Summary: The study found that Nile Blue binds to the DNA helix by two types of modes simultaneously, with binding driven by negative enthalpy and positive entropy changes. At low concentrations, Nile Blue binds to a DNA minor groove, while it switches to intercalation mode at higher concentrations. The thermodynamic study showed that the overall binding free energy is a combination of several negative and positive free energy changes.

Conserved Metabolic and Evolutionary Themes in Microbial Degradation of Carbamate Pesticides

Harshit Malhotra et al.

Summary: Carbamate pesticides are widely used in agriculture, food, and public health sectors but their environmental persistence impacts non-target organisms. Bacteria have evolved degradation pathways for these compounds, with mechanisms like horizontal gene transfer and enzyme promiscuity driving evolution of degradation phenotype. This review discusses the environmental fate, toxicity, metabolic routes, related genes and enzymes, and evolution mechanisms associated with carbamate pesticide degradation, as well as strategies like consortia application, metabolic engineering, and adaptive laboratory evolution for improving remediation efficiency.
