Facile preparation of sisal-Fe/Zn layered double hydroxide bio-nanocomposites for the efficient removal of rifampin from aqueous solution: kinetic, equilibrium, and thermodynamic studies

Mehrdad Negarestani et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel bio-nanocomposite (sisal-Fe/Zn layered double hydroxide) was synthesized for the first time and used for removing pharmaceutical pollutants. The bio-nanocomposite exhibited excellent adsorption capacity for rifampin, with mechanisms including electrostatic attraction and physical adsorption. Various factors affecting adsorption were evaluated, and the kinetic, isotherm, and thermodynamic studies were conducted. The results showed that the bio-nanocomposite has promising adsorption potential as a low-cost adsorbent for water treatment.

Simultaneous removal of polyaromatic hydrocarbons from water using polymer modified carbon

Tawfik A. Saleh et al.

Summary: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are hazardous organic micropollutants that are difficult to degrade and are commonly found in wastewater bodies near gas production, oil exploration, and other processing industries. In this study, a novel adsorbent was developed by modifying palm date seed-derived activated carbon with acrylic acid-co-crotonic acid polymer, which showed effective removal of naphthalene and fluorene. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbent was determined as 2.76 mg g(-1) and was well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Additionally, the adsorbent demonstrated good adsorption performance for a wastewater sample containing toxic heavy metals. Therefore, the prepared adsorbent has potential for the cost-effective removal of PAHs from urban wastewaters.

Baoxia Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, magnetic S-doped Fe-Cu-La trimetallic oxides were used as an adsorbent to remove Cr(VI) from water. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir model. The mechanism of Cr(VI) removal at pH < pHPZC was proposed. The adsorbent showed high stability at high pH and great reusability.
