Recent advances in MOF-derived carbon-based nanomaterials for environmental applications in adsorption and catalytic degradation

Da Liu et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted attention due to their rich structures and ingredients, but most MOFs have poor stability and are prone to self-decompose in water. Recent studies have shown that porous carbon materials derived from MOFs exhibit excellent stability in water, representing great potential and high performance as adsorbents and catalysts in the environmental field.

Inhibition by phenolic antioxidants of the degradation of aromatic amines and sulfadiazine by the carbonate radical (CO3•-)

Luca Carena et al.

Summary: The carbonate radical and excited triplet states of chromophoric dissolved organic matter play significant roles in the photodegradation of easily oxidized pollutants in surface waters. Back-reduction processes can inhibit the photodegradation of anilines and sulfadiazine, leading to the reduction of radical species back to their parent compounds. These processes have the potential to significantly impact the degradation of pollutants in natural waters.

Enhancement strategies for efficient activation of persulfate by heterogeneous cobalt-containing catalysts: A review

Bo Li et al.

Summary: Sulfate radical based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) have become a popular and efficient technology for the degradation of organic contaminants. Cobalt is considered as the most reactive and efficient non-noble metal catalyst for activating persulfate to produce sulfate radicals. In order to overcome the limitations of homogeneous catalytic systems, heterogeneous cobalt-containing catalysts have been developed. This paper provides an overview of the strategies for enhancing persulfate activation by heterogeneous cobalt-containing catalysts, as well as future perspectives of heterogeneous SR-AOPs systems catalyzed by cobalt-containing catalysts.

Zero-valent iron and biochar composite with high specific surface area via K2FeO4 fabrication enhances sulfadiazine removal by persulfate activation

Dongmei Ma et al.

Summary: ZVI/BC with large SSA fabricated by co-pyrolysis of K2FeO4 and bamboo showed excellent performance in removing environmental contaminants, with stability and recyclability. Factors such as higher temperature, lower pH, and Cl- were beneficial while CO32- and HPO42- had inhibitory effects on pollutant removal efficiency. Both non-radical species (O-1(2)) and radical species contributed to contaminant degradation, with O-1(2) being the most important reactive oxygen species.
