A purely green approach to low-cost mass production of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks

Hai Li et al.

Summary: Although ZIFs have great potential in various fields, their large-scale applications are hindered by the lack of low-cost commercial production techniques. This study presents an unconventional method for environmentally friendly and low-cost mass-production of ZIFs. The method utilizes CO2 to dissolve ZnO in an aqueous solution and forms ZIF-8 without any byproducts. A pilot plant was established to produce hundreds of kilograms of ZIF-8, demonstrating the environmental friendliness, low cost, and commercial accessibility of the new method. It is expected to pave the way for commercial applications of ZIFs.

Physical solvents and techno-economic analysis for pre-combustion CO2 capture: A review

Kathryn H. Smith et al.

Summary: This manuscript reviews the use, development, and economic performance of physical solvents for precombustion CO2 capture from high pressure H2 rich syngas streams. Commercially available physical solvents are presented, followed by an assessment of the ideal properties that are important for development of novel solvents for CO2 capture from high-pressure syngas streams. It was found that some novel solvents show promising technical performance in the laboratory, but other issues may limit their industrial applications.

CO2 separation from biogas with ionic liquid-based hybrid solvents: From properties to process

Nan Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed ILs-based hybrid solvents for CO2 separation from biogas and investigated the effects of IL mass fraction and temperature on absorption capacity, viscosity, and density. It was found that increasing IL mass fraction and decreasing temperature enhanced CO2 solubility. The process simulation and evaluation showed that thermal regeneration required less energy and had lower capture cost compared to air-blow regeneration. Reducing the PC content also decreased energy demand and capture cost.
