Mercury removal by Co3O4@TiO2@Fe2O3 magnetic core-shell oxygen carrier in chemical-looping combustion

Kailong Xu et al.

Summary: Mercury pollution, primarily from coal combustion, poses a serious threat to both human health and ecosystems. A magnetic material, CTF, was developed to enhance the removal of elemental mercury (Hg-0) during chemical-looping combustion of coal (CLCC). Results showed that CTF promoted the conversion of Hg-0 to Hg2+/HgP in the presence of HCl, contributing to a higher mercury removal efficiency.

Facile synthesis of magnetic mesoporous silica spheres for efficient removal of methylene blue via catalytic persulfate activation

Sun Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, magnetic mesoporous silica spheres (MMSS) were successfully prepared by the surface-protected etching method, allowing for efficient activation of persulfate to degrade methylene blue. The MMSS exhibited good surface wettability, high specific surface area, and stability over multiple cycles of reuse. Systematic investigations into the effect of various factors revealed that MMSS is a promising candidate for efficient removal of organic dyes.

Peroxymonosulfate catalyzed by core/shell magnetic ZnO photocatalyst towards malathion degradation: Enhancing synergy, catalytic performance and mechanism

Ali Akbar Isari et al.

Summary: In this study, ZnO nanoparticles were successfully anchored on SiO2@Fe3O4 (S@F) core/shell surfaces to prepare ZnO-SiO2@Fe3O4 (ZS@F) nanocomposite, showing enhanced photocatalytic activity towards malathion degradation under the action of UV-C light and peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Positive-charged holes and HO radicals were identified as the main reactive species. The stability of ZS@F decreased slightly after 5 consecutive cycles of degradation.

Synthesis of magnetized nitrogen-doped biochar and its high efficiency for elimination of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride by activation of peroxymonosulfate

Yang You et al.

Summary: The magnetized nitrogen-doped biochar (MNBC) as an activator of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) showed high efficiency in degrading ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CIP) and exhibited stability. The system displayed superior CIP removal efficiency, with sulfate radicals and hydroxyl radicals as the dominant reactive oxide species. Furthermore, the MNBC/PMS system's excellent magnetic properties allowed for easy separation and recovery, with a proposed catalytic mechanism involving the generation of sulfate radicals and hydroxyl radicals.
