Synthesis of clinoptilolite-supported BiOCl/TiO2 heterojunction nanocomposites with highly-enhanced photocatalytic activity for the complete degradation of xanthates under visible light

Pengfei Zhou et al.

Summary: A novel ternary BiOCl/TiO2/clinoptilolite (BTC) nanocomposite with highly-enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light was successfully prepared via a facile hydrothermal route, showing excellent adsorption and degradation performance for the target contaminant SIPX. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was mainly attributed to the effective construction of the BiOCl/TiO2 heterojunction and the excellent adsorption ability of the clinoptilolite in the BTC nanocomposites, as confirmed by characterization analysis and experimental results. Radical scavenger tests indicated that superoxide radical anions and photogenerated holes were the dominant active species in the reaction system, suggesting the potential of these novel nanocomposites as efficient photocatalysts for complete degradation of xanthates under visible light.

Summary: A Fe/graphitic carbon nitride/kaolinite composite photocatalyst was successfully prepared for the first time and showed high degradation efficiency for TCH in the photo-Fenton system. Free radical scavenging experiments confirmed that hydroxyl radicals were the main active substances. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the composite can be attributed to the large specific surface area of kaolinite and Fe acting as a photo-generated electron acceptor.

Experimental and MD simulation of 3-dodecyloxypropanamine and 3-tetradecyloxypropylamine adsorbed onto quartz (101) surface

Zhouyueyang Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, two surfactants, DOPA and TOPA, were synthesized and investigated as collectors in quartz micro-flotation. The adsorption mechanisms of DOPA and TOPA onto quartz surfaces were found to be stronger compared to DDA, primarily through electrostatic attraction. Computational properties and interaction energies between the surfactants and quartz surfaces were analyzed through MD simulations, providing insights into the wider pH range of DOPA/TOPA compared to DDA. XPS analyses and MD simulations further confirmed the adsorption of DOPA onto quartz surfaces through hydrogen bonds, with type A and type C bonds being the most dominant.
