Different degradation mechanisms of low-concentration ozone for MIL-100 (Fe) and MIL-100(Mn) over wide humidity fluctuation

Guanqing Song et al.

Summary: The synergistic control of ozone and fine particulate matter is an important research topic in the field of environmental studies. This study focused on the degradation of ozone pollutants using MIL-100(Fe) and MIL-100(Mn) materials. The results showed that MIL-100(Fe) exhibited superior photocatalytic activity, while MIL-100(Mn) had better catalytic efficiency at normal temperatures. The optimal photocatalytic performance of MIL-100(Fe) was observed at 10% humidity, while MIL-100(Mn) showed consistent catalytic degradation efficiency at humidity levels ranging from 10% to 90%. The degradation mechanism was proposed based on in-situ DRIFTS and ESR analysis, which were correlated with oxygen vacancy and photogenerated electron efficiency. Temperature Programmed Desorption (TPD) analysis detected a large number of Lewis acid sites in MIL-100(Mn), which contributed to its excellent performance in normal temperature degradation under high humidity. This work expands the practical application of ozone removal and improves degradation efficiency.
