Electrochemical Mini-Platform With Thread- Based Electrodes for Interference Free Arsenic Detection

Jaligam Murali Mohan et al.

Summary: In this study, a fully integrated thread/textile-based electrochemical sensing device was demonstrated to detect arsenic. The device utilized a hydrophilic conductive carbon thread as a working electrode, a hydrophilic thread coated with Ag/AgCl as a reference electrode, and an unmodified hydrophilic thread as a counter electrode. The device showed promising results in terms of electrochemical sensing of arsenic, with a relatively low limit of detection and good recovery values for real sample analysis.

Non-equilibrium potentiometric sensors integrated with metal modified paper-based microfluidic solution sampling substrates for determination of heavy metals in complex environmental samples

Rochelle Silva et al.

Summary: Metal modified paper-based substrates were used for microfluidic paper-based solution sampling coupled with Pb2+-ion selective electrodes to control the super-Nernstian response. The thickness of the metallic layer deposited on the paper substrates primarily determined the potentiometric response time. Double-sided paper substrates coated with 38 nm gold layers showed the best performance in controlling the super-Nernstian response of ISEs at non-equilibrium conditions. The use of metal modified paper substrates extended the lifetime of Pb2+-ISEs in complex environmental samples.

Acidified paper substrates for microfluidic solution sampling integrated with potentiometric sensors for determination of heavy metals

Ruiyu Ding et al.

Summary: The combination of acidified paper substrates and Pb2+-ISEs proved to be effective in simplifying the analysis of heavy metals in complex samples with low volumes and/or high solid-to-liquid ratios. By evaluating acidified paper substrates at different pH levels and analyzing the responses of Pb2+-ISEs, an acceptable operational pH range for potentiometric sensors was determined to be between 3-4. The proposed colour-coded matching graph can be used to match appropriate acidified paper substrates to the pH of unbuffered sample solutions, allowing for reliable determination of lead(II) in various complex environmental samples.
