Variation of lacustrine carbonate deposition in the Eocene Dongying Depression and its comparison with Holocene environments

Summary: The sedimentary characteristics and preservation potential of lacustrine carbonates provide important information on climate change. This study investigated the lacustrine carbonate deposition in the Eocene Dongying Depression using mineralogical, petrological and geochemical analyses. The study revealed varying patterns of carbonates in the Dongying Depression and developed a depositional model influenced by detrital influx, climate, palaeoproductivity and salinity. The comparison with four Holocene lakes suggests the development of distinct lake stages. This study contributes to the understanding of lacustrine carbonate deposition and environmental changes.

Origin and significance of authigenic quartz and albite in lacustrine calcareous fine-grained sedimentary rocks

Summary: This study found that authigenic microcrystalline quartz and albite develop together in lacustrine carbonate-rich fine-grained sedimentary rocks. The paragrowth and intergrowth of these minerals depend on the degree of supersaturation of ion concentration. Furthermore, the migration and enrichment of shale oil in calcareous fine-grained sedimentary rocks can be explained through the genetic mechanism of these authigenic minerals.

In situ rare earth element analysis of a lower Cambrian phosphate nodule by LA-ICP-MS

Summary: Rare earth elements in marine minerals are used as proxies for redox status, and phosphate nodules are potential archives for subtle changes in REE compositions. The REE distributions of a phosphate nodule from the lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation in Guizhou Province show systematic decreases in Ce anomalies from the core to the rim. The origin of MREE enrichment in the sample is less constrained and may be related to various factors such as preferential MREE substitution in the apatite lattice and deposition beneath a ferruginous zone.

The origin and composition of carbonatite-derived carbonate-bearing fluorapatite deposits
