Iron (Fe3+)-mediated redox responses and amelioration of oxidative stress in cadmium (Cd2+) stressed mung bean seedlings: a biochemical and computational analysis

Muhammad Khairujjaman Mazumder et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the ameliorative role of iron (Fe3+) on cadmium (Cd2+)-induced oxidative stress in mung bean seedlings. Cadmium stress resulted in growth changes and oxidative stress, while supplementation with iron improved growth and restored cellular homeostasis. Molecular docking analysis showed potential interactions of Cd2+ with antioxidant enzymes, which Fe3+ may prevent.

Proteomic investigation of Zn-challenged rice roots reveals adverse effects and root physiological adaptation

Martin Simon et al.

Summary: Our study revealed that high concentrations of zinc can affect the growth of rice seedlings and root cell death, but also stimulate glutathione synthesis, reduce levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde. A total of 42 zinc-responsive proteins were identified, with proteins involved in redox regulation, defense responses, sulfur metabolism, and proteolysis being induced while those of energy production and cell wall biogenesis were decreased.
