Eutrophication Drives Extreme Seasonal CO2Flux in Lake Ecosystems

Ana M. Morales-Williams et al.

Summary: Lakes play a significant role in the global carbon cycle, with eutrophication altering ecosystem function and greenhouse gas flux. The presence of autochthonous carbon cycling can amplify or reverse the impact of nutrient enrichment on CO(2) flux in lakes.

Dissolved and emitted methane in the Poyang Lake

Wang HaiZhen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the seasonal variations of dissolved and emitted methane in Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China. It shows that methane flux from the lake to the Yangtze River is highest in the dry season and lowest to the atmosphere in the wet season. The study also suggests that the Three Gorges Dam in the Yangtze River would further intensify the transformation between lake phase and river phase, which could have implications for other large lakes worldwide.

In-situ measurement of greenhouse gas emissions from a coastal estuarine wetland using a novel continuous monitoring technology: Comparison of indigenous and exotic plant species

Shih-Hung Hsieh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the seasonal and diurnal variation of greenhouse gas emissions from indigenous and exotic plant species in the Kaomei Estuary Wetland in central Taiwan. It found that daytime CO2 emissions were lower than nighttime emissions, while CH4 and N2O emissions showed the opposite trend. N2O had the highest impact on global warming, with Bolboschoenus planiculmis being the main contributor to GHG emissions in the wetland.
