Spatiotemporal distribution and mass loading of organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) in the Yellow River of China (Henan segment)

Jing Han et al.

Summary: Systematic investigations were conducted into contamination profiles of ten organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) in the Yellow River (Henan Area) during three sampling periods in 2014. The study found that OPFRs exist at lower concentrations in the suspended phase than in the water phase. Suspended particles (SS) had a significant impact on the transportation of OPFRs, with approximately 83.9% of inflow and 81.7% of outflow of OPFRs attributed to SS.

Occurrence, distribution and risk assessment of organophosphate ester flame retardants and plasticizers in surface seawater of the West Pacific

Kaiyan Xiao et al.

Summary: A study was conducted in 2019 to investigate the concentrations of organophosphate ester flame retardants and plasticizers in surface seawater samples collected from the West Pacific Ocean. The results revealed an important offshore input of these chemicals from the coasts of East and Southeast Asia. The risk assessment showed low ecological risk to species in the West Pacific Ocean, as Hazard Quotients were all <1, indicating acceptable levels of health risk to humans.

Occurrence of organophosphate esters in surface water and sediment in drinking water source of Xiangjiang River, China

Shengwei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence of organophosphate esters (OPEs) in the Xiangjiang River, a drinking water source of Changsha City. OPEs in water and sediment samples mostly came from wastewater treatment plants and anthropogenic activities, posing low ecological and human health risks. Interestingly, tap water exhibited higher OPE concentrations and human health risks than river water samples, possibly indicating contamination from water treatment processes or pipe networks.
