Effects of forest growth in different vegetation communities on forest catchment water balance

Kunyang Wang et al.

Summary: Forest ecosystems play a critical role in maintaining the dynamic balance of the hydrological cycle. In this study, a credible model was created using the SWAT tool to accurately simulate the water balance variations caused by changes in forest density. The results showed that the increase in forest evapotranspiration and changes in forest water balance were closely related to forest growth characteristics.

Long-term variations in water balance by increase in percent imperviousness of urban regions

Kunyang Wang et al.

Summary: The study shows that increasing urban percent imperviousness (PIU) has a significant impact on urban water resource balance, with an increase to 0.17 causing the urban surface runoff ratio to increase by 0.2. The impact of PIU on surface runoff and baseflows can sometimes be more important than changes in land use area, especially in rapidly urbanizing areas. Therefore, changes in PIU directly affect water balance and enhance the effects of area changes in urban or catchment water resource management.

Rice paddy irrigation seasonally impacts stream benthic macroinvertebrate diversity at the catchment level

Chia-Ying Ko et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of rice paddy areas on freshwater ecosystems using structural equation modeling, revealing seasonal variations in benthic macroinvertebrate diversity and the indirect effects of land use on local environments and biodiversity. The results highlight the importance of considering seasonal changes and land use practices in catchment management for environmental restoration and biodiversity conservation.

Estimation of Phosphorus Transport Influenced by Climate Change in a Rice Paddy Catchment Using SWAT

Kunyang Wang et al.

Summary: Phosphorus is essential for crop production, but human activities have led to environmental pollution from phosphorus resources. Using a hydrological model to simulate phosphorus transport can help understand loss processes at catchment scale. Previous studies often struggle to accurately simulate peak phosphorus transport and fail to consider specific forms of phosphorus in transport processes.

Phosphorus Use Efficiency in Permanent Pastures in Andisols

Erika Vistoso et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the PUE, PUPE, PUTE, and PNI on permanent pastures grown in different environments under different P rates. Significant variations in PUPE, PUTE, PUE, and PNI were observed across experiments, P rates, and harvest dates, with PUE being significantly related to PUPE and PUTE being related to PNI through a negative power function.
