Ultraviolet-visible and fluorescence spectra indicate the binding and transformation properties of hexavalent chromium in DOM solution

Situ Mu et al.

Summary: This study utilized spectroscopy to investigate the interaction between DOM and Cr(VI), revealing uneven participation of different functional groups in the complexation of Cr and the impact of interaction on solution properties. Analysis showed aromatic amino acids substances were more sensitive in binding onto Cr compared to fulvic-like and humic-like fractions, developing mechanisms for Cr(VI) retention. The goodness of fit of specific fluorescence intensities (SFI) was found to be better than that of the absorbance ratio (SR) at low Cr concentrations, but the opposite at high concentrations.
