Structural considerations in zeotropic distillation sequences with multiple feeds

Jose A. Caballero et al.

Summary: This study explores the structural characteristics of sequences generated from multiple feed streams with common components in order to reduce energy consumption and the total number of distillation columns. Integration in actual columns is complex, involving considerations like optimal feed location in multi-feed columns and integration of common sub-mixtures. The minimum number of actual columns and optimal sequence of separation tasks for each feed depend on the number of components in each feed and the possibilities of integrating common sub-mixtures.

Systems level roadmap for solvent recovery and reuse in industries

Emmanuel A. Aboagye et al.

Summary: Recovering waste solvent for reuse is a great alternative for improving industrial greenness, but designing recovery processes systematically can be challenging due to the complexities associated with waste stream composition, techno-economic analysis, and environmental assessment. Furthermore, challenges in meeting product specifications may hinder the promotion of solvent recovery and reuse practices.

Wind power potential and intermittency issues in the context of climate change

Yiling Cai et al.

Summary: Wind power has developed rapidly due to its potential for renewable energy and decreasing installation costs. However, the high temporal variability of wind power poses challenges for balancing electricity supply and demand. Analyzing wind power variability and spatial aggregation is necessary, particularly in the context of climate change. Model biases in simulated winds must be corrected for accurate evaluation of wind power potential.

Impacts of transportation and industrial complexes on establishment-level productivity growth in Korea

Hyungtai Kim et al.

Summary: This study examines how transportation and industrial complexes influence the productivity of manufacturing establishments using microdata and industrial location data for Korea. Closer proximity to expressways correlates with higher establishment productivity growth, especially in low and medium-technology industries. Establishments within industrial complexes generally experience a higher annual productivity growth rate compared to those outside, with this effect more pronounced in lower technology industries rather than high-technology industries. The study suggests the need for new policies to support high-technology industries in transforming industrial complexes into innovation centers in Korea's transition to a knowledge-based economy.
