Systematic Efficiency Improvement for Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 Solar Cells By Double Cation Incorporation with Cd and Ge

Mingrui He et al.

Summary: In this study, the performance of kesterite CZTSSe solar cell was significantly improved by incorporating small amounts of Ge and Cd into the absorber, reducing nonradiative recombination and enhancing carrier collection efficiency. The combination of Ge and Cd incorporation led to higher open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current density, and fill factor, resulting in a high conversion efficiency of 11.6%. This research highlights the importance of multiple cation incorporation strategy for systematically manipulating the opto-electronic properties of kesterite materials.

Tuning of Precursor Composition and Formation Pathway of Kesterite Absorbers Using an In-Process Composition Shift: A Path toward Higher Efficiencies?

David Nowak et al.

Summary: By adjusting the as-grown composition of the precursor and achieving composition shift during the annealing process, the formation pathway and final composition of kesterite Cu2ZnSnSe4 (CZTSe) thin film absorbers can be partially decoupled. The refined composition region contributes to reduced Urbach tailing and lower V (OC) deficit, resulting in solar cells with efficiencies above 11%.

Identifying the origin of the Voc deficit of kesterite solar cells from the two grain growth mechanisms induced by Sn2+ and Sn4+ precursors in DMSO solution

Yuancai Gong et al.

Summary: By investigating the grain growth mechanism of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)(4) solar cells, this study reveals that the large voltage deficit issue limiting kesterite solar cell efficiency mainly originates from surface deep defects, and high efficiency (>12%) and low V-oc deficit (<300 mV) of Sn4+ processed CZTSSe solar cells highlight a new strategy for fabricating high quality kesterite absorbers.
