MOF-based ionic sieve interphase for regulated Zn2+ flux toward dendrite-free aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a multifunctional protective strategy for zinc-ion batteries, which uses zinc benzene tricarboxylate as a coating material to enable fast Zn2+ transport and stable stripping/plating, while inhibiting side reactions. This strategy achieves ultra-long cycling stability and outstanding capacity retention.

Direct Self-Assembly of MXene on Zn Anodes for Dendrite-Free Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries

Nannan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, an ultrathin and uniform MXene layer was assembled on the surface of zinc anodes using an in situ spontaneously reducing/assembling strategy. The integrated MXene layer reduced the zinc nucleation energy barrier and provided a more uniformly distributed electric field, resulting in low voltage hysteresis and excellent cycling stability with dendrite-free behaviors in zinc-ion batteries.

Dual Porous 3D Zinc Anodes toward Dendrite-Free and Long Cycle Life Zinc-Ion Batteries

Kai Chen et al.

Summary: Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries with a dual porous Zn-3D@600 anode exhibit excellent cycle stability and superlative rate performance, delivering a discharge capacity of 198.8 mAh g(-1) after 1000 cycles at 1 A g(-1). This is attributed to the Zn@C protective layer regulating uniform Zn nucleation and the 3D zinc skeleton accommodating Zn deposition at a high current density.

A hafnium oxide-coated dendrite-free zinc anode for rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Bin Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple strategy involving application of a HfO2 coating was used to guide uniform deposition of Zn2+ to suppress formation of zinc dendrites, resulting in improved electrochemical performance of zinc anode. The HfO2-coated zinc anode demonstrated lower voltage hysteresis and better cycling performance in zinc-zinc symmetric cells and Zn-MnO2 full cells, showing potential for future development of rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries.

A Thin and Uniform Fluoride-Based Artificial Interphase for the Zinc Metal Anode Enabling Reversible Zn/MnO2 Batteries

Jin Han et al.

Summary: By developing an artificial ZnF2 layer on the surface of Zn metal anode, researchers have successfully addressed the limitation of zinc batteries' lifespan. This artificial layer suppresses dendrite growth and facilitates zinc insertion and transport through an interstitial diffusion mechanism. This improvement has been demonstrated by the long-term cycling and high capacity retention achieved by zinc-zincF2/MnO2 full cells.
