Chiral and degenerate perfect absorption on exceptional surfaces

S. Soleymani et al.

Summary: Robust engineering of non-Hermitian light-matter coupling is important for optical device design. The authors present a photonic system operating on an exceptional surface, demonstrating chiral and degenerate absorption with super-Lorentzian lineshape. By operating the system on the exceptional surface, they achieve chiral and degenerate perfect absorption with squared-Lorentzian lineshape.

Non-linear coherent perfect absorption in the proximity of exceptional points

Suwun Suwunnarat et al.

Summary: Non-linear coherent perfect absorption mechanism is formed near exceptional point degeneracies of the zeros of the scattering function, allowing for self-induced perfect absorption triggered by a coherent incident excitation exceeding a critical intensity. This broad-band absorption persists around the nonlinear coherent perfect absorption condition due to a quartic behavior acquired in the absorbance spectrum. Coherent perfect absorption provides control of light with wide ranging applications.

Coherent perfect absorption at an exceptional point

Changqing Wang et al.

Summary: Exceptional points, degeneracies in open wave systems, have been observed in photonics, acoustics, and electronics. In addition to resonant degeneracy, an absorbing exceptional point with distinct physical features can be realized by engineering degeneracies in the absorption spectrum of dissipative optical microcavities. The distinct scattering properties of an absorbing exceptional point provide opportunities for fundamental study and applications of non-Hermitian degeneracies.
