Liquid-liquid interface induced PDMS-PTFE composite membrane for ethanol perm-selective pervaporation

Chong Li et al.

Summary: Pervaporation has great potential in separating significant mixtures, but excessive penetration of the separation layer into substrate pores can hinder membrane development. A floating-on-water method was used to prepare PDMS/PTFE composite membranes with controlled thickness and pore penetration. The composite membrane exhibited high flux and stability in ethanol perm-selective pervaporation.

High-flux corrugated PDMS composite membrane fabricated by using nanofiber substrate

Jiahui Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a facile approach was proposed to develop a high-flux PDMS membrane with a corrugated morphology. The electrospun nanofiber substrate with highly interconnected and porous structures was coated with PDMS solution to generate a corrugated PDMS membrane layer, which greatly increased the surface area and reduced the transport resistance. By optimizing the pore structure of the nanofiber substrate and reducing the membrane thickness, the corrugated PDMS membrane exhibited up to one order of magnitude higher permeation flux compared with state-of-the-arts PDMS membranes for pervaporation separation of ethanol/water mixtures.

Facile synthesis of ZIF-8 nanoparticles using polar acetic acid solvent for enhanced adsorption of methylene blue

Eko Santoso et al.

Summary: Synthesis of ZIF-8 using acetic acid as solvent resulted in uniform nanoparticles with enhanced adsorption properties for methylene blue removal. Compared to ZIF-8 produced using N,N-dimethylformamide solvent, ZIF-8 (AA) showed smaller particle size, enhanced mesoporosity, higher surface area, and greater adsorption capacity. The adsorption of methylene blue followed pseudo-second order kinetic and Langmuir model on ZIF-8 (AA), indicating its efficiency for dye removal.
