The spectral properties of difluoroboron beta-diketonates in a polystyrene matrix were investigated. A bathochromic shift of the fluorescence bands was observed in the steady-state luminescence spectra during the transition from solutions to polymer films, which is attributed to dye self-absorption. It was demonstrated that using a mask to excite a small portion of the film is a simple and convenient method to prevent the effect of dye self-absorption on the fluorescence spectrum structure.
